We are proud to launch the first Dutch round table debate about the notion of the Black Atlantic. We commonly explore black identity in the urban cultures of Africa, America and Europe.

With Francio Guadeloupe, Faustin Linyekula, Sruti Bala and you!

As this event is English spoken, we share the info about this event in English.

This evening has its roots in Paul Gilroys magnum opus The Black Atlantic which argues that the centuries-long history of slavery wasn’t an aberration but a central fact in the creation of the modern world. Drawing on literature, music, political philosophy and other texts, it argued for an idea of a diasporic black identity that arose from the experience of enslavement and transcends ethnicity and nationality.
Keynote speaker Francio Guadeloupe will relate Paul Gilroy's concept to the Dutch context. You are warmly invited to participate in the debate, moderated by Chris Keulemans.
