On Friday the 1st of September the exhibition Gordon Parks - I Am You will be animated with performances celebrating Gordon Parks’ multifaceted persona. Though he is best known for his documentary photography of humanitarian issues, Gordon Parks was also a celebrated filmmaker, composer and author. His creativity emerged in many disciplines and brought him in contact with some of the most prominent figures of his era. Parks' Café is an ode to this Renaissance Man and his enduring contribution to photography and beyond.
In the last decades we presented work by African-American writers and icons like Ralph Ellison (Diggydotcom 2001), The Last Poets (The Last Poets 2010), Susan Lori Parks (Topdog Underdog 2011) and Nina Simone (Nina Simone (A) live 2012/2015). With this in mind the Amsterdam based photography museum FOAM invited us to partner up for 'Parks' Café' – the closing event of the Gordon Parks 'I Am You' exhibition.
